The importance of dancing bare foot

Did you know?

Dancing barefoot helps our development!

We sometimes get asked why our dancers don't wear ballet shoes and this is why:

Rae Pica, writes in her article, “Being Barefoot Boosts Brain Development”, “… the feet are the most nerve-rich parts of the human body, which means they contribute to the building of neurological pathways in the brain. Covering them in shoes, therefore, means we’re eliminating all kinds of opportunities for children’s brains to grow new neural connections.”

Without shoes, the feet are receiving more proprioceptive input and it also helps the children understand spatial awareness. This helps with many things like balance and strength!

We also avoid any distractions such as tying laces or the upset if shoes are accidentally left at home so it gives us more time to dance and grow together!
